Speakers
Nigel Tonks
Nigel Tonks is a Sustainable Development Director at Arup and senior advisor to the Climate Champions Built Environment Team. With 35 years’ experience as a Consulting Engineer and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers, he leads Arup’s Whole Life Carbon commitment for buildings and decarbonization programs. He developed the Arup Zero technology platform for assessing the whole-life carbon of buildings globally. Nigel contributes to climate events like COP, the Global Buildings and Climate Forum, and London Climate Action Week, advocating for a decarbonized, resilient, and equitable built environment. His notable projects include the award-winning Amorepacific Headquarters in Seoul, the Turner Contemporary gallery in Margate, the St Louis Art Museum, and advisory services for The Nobel Foundation. Nigel has extensive experience with diverse regulations, green building standards, and sustainable development approaches worldwide.
Mina Hasman
Mina Hasman leads SOM’s sustainability and wellbeing initiatives, overseeing the firm’s global climate action efforts. With extensive project experience across Europe, the UK, the Middle East, and Asia, she excels in sustainable and equitable design across diverse contexts. As a recognized expert, she serves on numerous influential committees, including the UKGBC Board of Trustees, RIBA Council, and several climate-focused task groups. Mina contributes to climate change discourse as a tutor at institutions like The Bartlett (UCL) and the Manchester School of Architecture. She developed the “Climate Framework” Initiative, helping RIBA define climate literacy requirements, and authored the “RIBA Climate Guide.”
Her leadership in climate advocacy earned her the 2021 Big 5 Construction Award for Sustainable Leader of the Year and recognition by TIME Magazine as one of the 100 most influential climate leaders in 2023. Mina also served on the Stirling Prize Jury in 2021 and currently chairs the RIBA Silver Medal.
