Birmingham is open for business
The CE Birmingham & Black Country Club is organizing an event featuring Guest Speaker Simon Delahunty-Forrest, who serves as the Assistant Director for Planning & Development at Birmingham City Council. With a background as a qualified architect, Simon plays a pivotal role as the chief design advisor, championing design excellence within the urban landscape.
Simon’s portfolio includes the oversight of various ‘Specific Specialist Areas,’ including the City Design Team, City Centre Planning Management, City Centre Development, Enforcement, and Householder projects. His leadership is geared towards fostering and facilitating the highest standards in Place Making, Planning, Architecture, Urban Design, Arboriculture, Historic Conservation, and Landscape Design for all new developments in Birmingham. This pursuit is dedicated to the welfare of the city’s residents.
Simon is renowned for his exceptional ability to seamlessly integrate architecture and urban design, resulting in holistic and well-conceived environments. He is credited with significant recent projects, including the ‘Birmingham Curzon HS2 Masterplan for growth,’ ‘Birmingham Smithfield Masterplan,’ ‘Langley Sustainable Urban Extension,’ and, most notably, the ‘Rea Valley Urban Quarter Masterplan.’
In his capacity, Simon serves as the central figure for design-related matters, actively promoting design quality through collaborative efforts within multi-agency project teams. He maintains close working relationships with external developers, key stakeholders, and partners, all with the aim of shaping new developments under the aegis of the Planning and Development Service to reflect Birmingham’s esteemed international reputation.
Simon’s contributions to the field have earned him recognition in the Birmingham Central University’s ‘Sphere of Influence,’ where he ranks among the top 50 influencers in the architecture and landscape sector who have graduated from the Birmingham School of Architecture.
