Marsh Construction and Real Estate Networking Event
Come along to this networking event with Constructing Excellence Midlands on Thursday 20 April in Birmingham
2:45 PM ArrivalÂ
3 PM Alex Brock, Pre-Construction Manager, B&KÂ Structures
Engineered Timber
As client priorities have changed and sustainability has moved closer to the top of the agenda, engineered timber has been established as a realistic option for large, structurally challenging projects. However, the demands of these projects often require timber to be married with more traditional structural components such as steel to meet budgets, insurance requirements and architectural constraints, making hybrid construction the only practical option.
4 PM Andy Desmond, Marsh UK Industry Leader, Construction SpecialtyÂ
Modern methods of construction Â
As our industry looks to future commitments for greater sustainability, we are seeing the increased adoption of modern methods of construction across the built environment from contractors, owners and developers. Andy will be discussing the key industry concerns across the different risks, including mass timber structures, bathroom/kitchen pods and off-site manufacturing facilities. He will also be touching on the technological advancement of 3D printing, digital twins, volumetric modular and panelised systems.
4.30 PMÂ Andrew Carpenter, Chief Executive and Governance Board of Constructing Excellence MidlandsÂ
Innovation in the Built Environment Â
Constructing Excellence has been at the heart of the construction industry’s change agenda for 25 years since the ground breaking Rethinking Construction Report of 1998. From that time, they have been promoting collaborative working, integrated supply chains and lean processes through their network of regional partners and best practice clubs across the UK.
Andrew will discuss innovation in the Built Environment and cover the very latest thinking both culturally, especially procurement, and in practice. The two biggest issues of our time, namely climate crisis and Building Safety, are creating huge opportunities to improve the performance of our sector and Andrew will consider how these should be addressed together.
Â
5 PM Peter Dolamore, Marsh Advisory Risk Partner, Construction Specialty
ESG, risks, and strategies Â
Construction and real estate sector leaders are facing the increasing pressure to address and publicise their ESG strategy. 2022 statistics on energy efficiency for buildings from the UNEP state that buildings are responsible for around 40% of global energy consumption, a quarter of global water usage, and a third of greenhouse gas emissions. Peter will be talking about how to identify your risks, measure the impact of your exposure and respond and recover from any losses.
