Derby Silk Mill Museum of Making – A story of Renewal
Talk by Kevin Thomas of IPInitiatives on Derby Silk Mill Museum of Making
Derby Museums sought funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to sustainably restructure their existing accommodation and create the Museum of Making as a celebration of the ingenuity of innovators and makers, both old and new. In doing so, it looked to the latest delivery innovation of IPI to ensure the high-quality museum would be ready for reopening on the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Silk Mill and world’s first factory, 300 years on (in 2021).
Insurance Backed Alliancing (IBA) is a new genre of project team alliancing which has its roots in UK construction including offshore. The Integrated Project Insurance (IPI) Model is the first application of IBA anywhere in the world. Clients report the IPI Model produces higher quality better performing outcomes. Partners report lower risk more predictable financial performance. Participants report IPI to be more rewarding, more fun and much better for individuals’ mental health.
Hear about this groundbreaking heritage project, the innovative procurement method and the people involved in its delivery.
